Tips to Maintain a Healthy Lifestyle in 2021

  • Diet

Add variety to your food. Eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables avoid non-processed food. Our body needs more than 40 different nutrients, so it needs plenty of different food to complete nutritional requirement of body.

Eat regularly, never skip your meal and make it your habit. But control the portion size. It’s about a balanced food choice that makes a difference.

Add carbohydrates to your meal. Replace saturated with unsaturated fat in your food.

Reduce salt and sugar intake. Amount of sugar you can consume relays on how many calories you are allowed to consume each day. Using balanced amount of salt and sugar in your food prevents from hypertension and diabetes.

  • Fluid Intake

Keeping yourself hydrated is important for health and well-being both physically and mentally but many people do not take it in to consideration. Drinking 64 ounces or 1.5 liter of water every day, and limiting alcohols, sodas and caffeine is important or healthy lifestyle.

Why water is so important to maintain healthy life? It helps to lubricate and cushion the joints.  It delivers oxygen throughout the body in blood. It keeps skin hydrated and fresh. It protects brain, spinal cord, and other sensitive tissues. It regulates body temperature and blood pressure. It prevents kidney damage. Water may also help with weight loss, if it is consumed instead of sweetened juices and sodas.

  • Keep moving and make it a habit!

Daily exercise and activities performed while carrying out household chores, playing, travelling, and recreational pastime keep you physically fit and active. The amount of physical activity everybody needs depends on age. Adults aged between 18-60 years should do at least 25 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise daily.

  • Meditate, pray and find peace

Keeping good care of your body and soul and nurturing them with the help of yoga, meditation, Pilates or any other way helps you deal with the physical, emotional and mental demands of daily life.

  • Don’t smoke

Smoking tobacco and weeds is the biggest cause of lungs cancer, stroke and other chronic heart diseases. Smoking harms not only the smoker himself but even non-smokers just because of exposure.

If you are a smoker, it’s never too late to quit. Make it your resolution this year to quit smoking. Once you try it you will experience immediate and long-term benefits.

  • Maintain your blood pressure regularly

Continuous high blood pressure is called a “silent killer”.  Many people with hypertension may not be aware of the problem.  If left untreated and uncontrolled, it definitely leads to chronic diseases of heart, brain and kidney.

In order to maintain your blood pressure keep a check on it on weekly bases. Strictly follow your medicine schedule and never miss your dose. Keep yourself hydrated and physically active. Quit sedentary lifestyle and junk food.

  • Have regular check-ups

Regular medical check-ups can help rule-out health problems before they start. Regular visit to your doctor can help find and diagnose health issues early, when your chances for treatment and cure are better.

  • Talk to someone you trust if you’re depressed

Now-a-days depression is a common most illness worldwide with over 260 million people affected including all age groups. Depression makes you feel worthless. You have continuous pessimistic and disturbing thoughts making you emotionally and physically week and lazy. If you are going through such phase never hesitate to talk to someone you trust and share your problems and thoughts with them. This will make you feel heard and better

  • Get a good night’s sleep

Proper sleep at night and maintaining your sleep cycle keeps you physically active and mentally fresh. Well-rested people not only deal better with stress, but may also have better control of their appetites.
