Including disables as equal part of society is an essential condition to endorse development, human rights, and peace. International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) is observed every year on 3rd December to ensure equal participation of disable people and to take action for the involvement of persons with disabilities in all aspects of society and infrastructure. The theme this year is “Building Back Better: toward a disability-inclusive, accessible and sustainable post COVID-19 World”. According to the WHO World Report on Disability, 15 percent of the world’s population, or more than 1 billion people, are living with disability.
Campaign this year focuses on escalating acknowledgement and understanding of disabilities that are not immediately apparent, like mental illness, sight or hearing impairments, chronic pain or fatigue, neurological disorders , brain injuries, , learning differences and cognitive dysfunctions. Moreover it adjures a society ways to strive for perfectness by pulling out physical, technological and attitudinal disparateness for disable people.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, isolation, disconnection, disturbed routines and schedules and declined services have negatively impacted the lives and mental health of people with disabilities around the globe. Spreading awareness of unseen and un-noticed disabilities, as well as these destructive effects is crucial and un-noticed as long as the world fights against the virus.
This year, it is aimed at improving the lives of people with disability and people belonging to them. Framework for reform pays all attention to betterment of with disability and seeks to create a society that includes and encourages people with disability to attain their complete potential as equal citizens.
